National Library Board
KidsREAD is a nationwide reading programme officially launched on 23 April 2004 by then Deputy Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. KidsREAD is a collaborative effort by the National Library Board (NLB) together with the People's Association (PA) and five self-help groups to promote the love of reading and cultivate good reading habits among all young Singaporeans, in particular children from low-income families. In 2013, 26 Primary 1 students have been selected to be enrolled into this programme. With the guidance of trained KidsREAD volunteers (BGPS parent volunteers), reading is made interactive and enjoyable for the students.
Starting from 2013, the school also collaborates with the NLB to look into organizing a series of activities, in order to promote reading amongst the students. For example, the school and the NLB jointly organized a “Raising Readers and Reading Fiesta” workshop for both parents and students.
